We received our neck and shoulder heating pad. It was in a plastic bag to avoid contamination and if it has a scent I assume to keep it seal. It came with a guide to use which included: info on the pad, use and storage instructions, cleaning instructions, and heating/freezing times. This pack is perfectly fitted for the shoulders and lower neck area it is filled with rice, some of the packs also come scented. When warming the pack out microwave actually needed additional time other than the 2 minutes required. The pack held the heat for quite a long time to be honest! When cooling it was suggested to put in freezer for 2 hrs. It held its coldness for around 15-20 mind perfect for icing. I received this item for free for my honest unbiased opinion.
